Hand-blown in Okinawa, the Lagoon Ryukyu Glass & Yamasakura Coaster Set pairs two luminous Ryukyu glass tumblers with two Japanese-made coasters crafted from natural Yamasakura wood.
The tumblers capture the vibrant greens and golden shallows of the Ryukyu Islands—reminiscent of sunlight filtering through clear tropical water over a sandy lagoon. Layers of translucent green and yellow glass create a luminous effect that changes beautifully with the light.
Each tumbler is individually hand-blown using traditional Ryukyu glass techniques, resulting in subtle variations in colour, form, bubbles and texture. No two are exactly alike.
Completing the set are two square coasters made in Japan from Yamasakura, or Japanese mountain cherry wood. Naturally strong with an attractive grain, Yamasakura develops a richer character and deeper tone with continued use. The warmth of the natural timber provides a beautiful contrast to the vivid glass.

About Ryukyu Glass
Ryukyu glass (琉球ガラス) is one of Okinawa’s celebrated craft traditions, recognised for its vivid colours, organic forms and distinctive handmade character.
Each piece is shaped by hand, and small bubbles, variations in colour and subtle irregularities can occur naturally during the making process. Rather than imperfections, these characteristics give artisan Ryukyu glass its individuality and distinguish each piece from mass-produced glassware.
About Yamasakura
Yamasakura (山桜), or Japanese mountain cherry, is a natural hardwood valued for its beautiful grain, strength and the way its colour develops with use.
The coasters are made in Tsukechi, Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan, using carefully selected timber and Japanese craftsmanship. Their simple square form allows the natural character of the wood to complement rather than compete with the colourful Ryukyu glass.
The manufacturer advises that the coasters should be gently wiped or washed with a soft sponge and mild detergent, dried promptly and kept away from prolonged soaking, boiling sterilisation and dishwashers.
