About the Ceramics

The bowl and plate belong to the Hechimon tradition of Shigaraki ware, where individuality and variation are part of the character of each piece.

The donburi bowl combines a warm, natural ceramic ground with fluid blue and earthy brown decoration. Its coordinating plate takes the colour in a bolder direction, with intense shades of turquoise, cobalt and deep blue creating a beautifully vibrant surface.

Rather than being identical, the two ceramics complement one another through colour, texture and the expressive nature of their glazes.

Natural variations in glaze, pattern, colour and surface are characteristic of this style of pottery and make each piece individual.
