RYUSEI Ocean Plate

Handcrafted in Okinawa, the Ocean Plate is finished in Ryūsai glaze—a signature glaze developed to capture the vivid blues of the Ryukyu Islands.

Created using traditional Yachimun techniques, the island’s naturally iron-rich clay is first coated with a fine white slip before layers of cobalt-rich glaze are applied by hand. This specialised process allows the brilliant ocean-blue finish to emerge while preserving the warmth and character of the clay beneath.

The result is a beautifully balanced piece with subtle movement and depth, inspired by the clear waters surrounding Okinawa.

Designed for everyday use, the Ocean Plate is ideal for serving sushi, appetisers, pastries or small shared dishes. Each piece is individually handcrafted, with natural variations in glaze, colour and texture that celebrate the individuality of the maker.

About Ryūsai Glaze

Ryūsai glaze was developed to express the vibrant blue waters that surround Okinawa. Applied over a fine white slip layered onto the island’s iron-rich clay, the glaze creates the luminous cobalt finish that has become a distinctive feature of this style of Yachimun pottery.
