Description

Sumi Japanese Pottery Cup & Tray Set

Dark earth, expressive brushwork and the quiet beauty of Japanese pottery.

The Sumi Cup & Tray Set brings together two compact pottery cups and a coordinating square tray, each finished in deep charcoal and earthy brown tones with contrasting cream brushwork.

Inspired by the expressive quality of sumi ink, the dark textured surfaces create a dramatic backdrop for the lighter hand-painted-style details. Across the cups, broad cream strokes wrap around the body, while the tray carries a single organic motif that gives the set a beautifully composed, artistic quality.

The cups have a gently flared rim and tactile pottery surface, with a 150 ml capacity that makes them particularly suited to Japanese tea, sake and smaller servings of favourite drinks.

The accompanying square tray completes the composition and can be used for a small accompaniment, sweet or snack, or simply as a decorative serving piece alongside the cups.

Made in Japan, the set captures the understated irregularity, texture and warmth that make Japanese pottery so appealing.

Crafted Character

The textured pottery surface, irregular tonal depth and expressive contrasting decoration give this set its distinctive character. Subtle variations in finish and appearance complement the handcrafted aesthetic rather than detracting from it.

Why You’ll Love It

Sumi has a darker, more grounded presence than conventional drinkware. The charcoal pottery and loose cream markings feel both ancient and contemporary, while the small square tray turns the three pieces into a beautifully balanced table setting.

It is functional enough for everyday rituals yet distinctive enough to display when not in use.
